Melbourne String Ensemble with Fintan Murphy

MSE, directed by Fintan Murphy, offers students an unparalleled opportunity to perform high quality repertoire with some of Melbourne’s most talented young string musicians. The students develop ensemble, chamber and advanced musicianship skills and regularly take part in masterclasses with some of Australia’s most accomplished professional musicians.

Rehearsals are scheduled on Saturdays during school terms in Kew from 2:30pm-5:00pm

The expected entry standard is as follows:

Violin: AMEB Certificate of Performance plus
Cello/Viola : AMEB Grade 8 plus

Arnold Schoenberg – Verklarte Nacht, Op.4. for String Orchestra (1917)

Aaron Wyatt- Djeran for solo viola and string orchestra, soloist Stefanie Farrands. (Commissioned by Melbourne String Ensembles as part of The Seasons Project)

MSE Masterclasses

Throughout the year, MSE invites prominent Australian and international musicians to come and work with our students. Carolin Widman, Peter Bruns, Dale Barltrop, Zoe Knighton and many more provide expert tuition and inspire our young students

MSE (Flagship) Semester Program Fees

The Melbourne String Ensemble is a not for profit organization that is run via a committee of management. Fees cover the cost of our rehearsal and concert programme, participation in various masterclasses, intensive workshop days and membership to the association.
