Rebecca Proietto
Rebecca Proietto has been a permanent member of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since 2023. She has a Masters degree in cello performance from Stony Brook University in New York where she studied with Colin Carr. Previous to this she spent two years at the Australian National Academy of Music after
finishing her Bachelor of Music with Honours and Diploma of Modern Languages at the University of Melbourne.
Previous to winning her job with the MSO, Rebecca performed casually with various orchestras in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. She was a member of the Sydney Symphony Fellowship program in 2015 and was an emerging artist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2014. She has
worked with young cellists at various schools in addition to running string workshops throughout regional Australia.
Rebecca has been the recipient of the Gwen Prokter and Lizette Bentwich Scholarships from the University of Melbourne, the Annie, Jean & Doris Lamont Scholarship and was an awardee of an Australian Music Fund Grant for 2014.
In her spare time Rebecca enjoys camping and travelling with her husband while they try to wrangle their
two small children.
