Intermediate Melbourne String Ensemble

IMSE, also directed by Fintan Murphy, began in 2014.  IMSE advances the skills of players who are performing at a high level but are not quite ready for the senior group. Students in IMSE develop ensemble skills and the technical mastery necessary for advanced ensemble participation. To develop their musical teamwork, the IMSE performs unconducted.


The expected entry standard is as follows;

  • Violin: AMEB Grade 7 plus
  • Cello/Viola: AMEB Grade 5 plus

Rehearsals are scheduled on Saturdays during school terms in Kew from 1pm-3pm

IMSE Fees

MSE is a not for profit organization that is run via a committee of management. Fees include our rehearsal and concert programme, participation various masterclasses, an intensive workshop day and membership to the association.
