The MSE develops musical excellence within a supportive environment. The orchestra believes that success lies not only in the satisfaction of a challenging musical program performed to the highest standard, but in the spirit and teamwork that accompanies such achievements. Our students remain in contact with each other and with us long after they have left MSE.
The MSE commenced early in 1985 as the Junior Strings of Melbourne. From those beginnings the orchestra has embarked on a journey which has taken it from Australia to Asia and Europe, from concerts at Melba Hall and Melbourne Recital Centre in Melbourne to music festivals in Sweden and Estonia, and the Stuttgart Mozart Liedehalle, from charity functions to senior corporate events in Australia and overseas. The orchestra has evolved under leading music directors to be one of Melbourne’s finest youth ensembles providing outstanding training and performance opportunities for more than 350 students who have passed through its ranks over the last quarter century.
MSE has a minimum standard entry level of Grade 8+ AMEB violin and viola and Grade 7 AMEB Cello and Double Bass. Entry is by audition.
