Melbourne String Ensemble Programs

Melbourne String Ensembles is a dynamic 3-tier string orchestra development program offering exciting performance and touring opportunities for players aged 7-18.

Renowned teachers, small group sizes and a nurturing community make MSE a unique experience.

The MSE Ensembles Program accepts enrolments throughout the year. Enquire via the ensemble page contact forms for further information and to arrange an audition.

Melbourne String Ensemble

Melbourne String Ensemble (MSE), directed by Fintan Murphy, offers students an unparalleled opportunity to perform high quality repertoire with some of Melbourne’s most talented young string musicians. Students develop ensemble, chamber and advanced musicianship skills and regularly take part in masterclasses with some of Australia’s most accomplished professional musicians.

Intermediate Melbourne String Ensemble

Intermediate Melbourne String Ensemble (IMSE), currently directed by Michael Loftus-Hills, began in 2014. Students in IMSE develop ensemble skills and the technical mastery necessary for advanced ensemble participation. To develop their musical teamwork, the IMSE performs unconducted.

Junior Melbourne String Ensemble

Junior Melbourne String Ensemble (JMSE), directed by Margaret Butcher, provides a warm and nurturing environment for our youngest members and focuses on developing their ensemble and performance skills. Students develop a love of orchestral playing as they rehearse and perform an eclectic range of repertoire.
